Organic Farming in Europe

The current EU organic legislation sets out rules for plant and animal production and for the processing of food and feed to be labelled as organic. Compliance with the EU organic legislation is required for all products carrying the EU organic logo.

The origin of the farmed ingredients has to be indicated together with the logo, and the code number of the certification body has to accompany the label.

Every farmer, processor and importer in the Organic Farming from Italy supply chain is inspected at least once a year to ensure their compliance with the regulation.

This process is supervised by each EU Member State, which is responsible for establishing an inspection system with competent authorities to ensure adherence to the obligations established in the organic Regulation.

Organic food is produced to the same food safe quality standards as other foods and must comply with EU General Food law.
